J. G. Strijdom
J. G. Strijdom was a South African politician who served as prime minister from 1954 until his death in 1958. A hard-line Afrikaner nationalist from the Transvaal, he pushed apartheid further, removing coloured voters from the common roll in 1956 by enlarging the Senate and the Appellate Division, and promoted the goal of a republic. He was succeeded by Hendrik Verwoerd.
