James II of Scotland

1430–1460 · 15th century

James II was King of Scots from 1437 to 1460, known for the red birthmark on his face. After a minority dominated by noble factions, he broke the power of the Black Douglases, killing the eighth earl in 1452. An enthusiast for artillery, he was killed in 1460 when one of his own cannons burst during the siege of Roxburgh Castle.
