James II of Urgell

1380–1433 · 15th century · Also known as James the Unfortunate

James II of Urgell was count of Urgell from 1408 and a great-grandson of Alfonso IV of Aragon. When Martin I died without an heir in 1410 he was the leading Catalan claimant to the Crown of Aragon, but the Compromise of Caspe chose Ferdinand of Antequera in 1412. His revolt in 1413 ended with the surrender of Balaguer, the loss of his county and imprisonment until his death.
