Cerdanya

Also known as Cerdagne

Cerdanya is a high Pyrenean valley of the upper Segre, divided between Catalonia in Spain and the French department of Pyrénées-Orientales. It takes its name from the ancient Cerretani, became a Carolingian county and later passed to the counts of Barcelona. The Treaty of the Pyrenees of 1659 split it, giving the northern part to France but leaving the town of Llívia as a Spanish exclave.
