1640 · 17th century · Part of the Reapers' War

The Corpus de Sang ('Bloody Corpus') was the riot of 7 June 1640 in Barcelona, when reapers and townspeople, angered by the billeting of royal troops, killed the viceroy, the Count of Santa Coloma. It began the Reapers' War, the Catalan revolt against Philip IV of Spain.
