Balaguer

Balaguer is a town on the Segre in the province of Lleida, Catalonia. Taken from the Muslims by Count Ermengol VI of Urgell in 1105, it became the capital of the county of Urgell. In 1413 Count James II of Urgell, the defeated claimant to the Aragonese throne, was besieged there by Ferdinand I and forced to surrender.
