Compromise of Caspe

1412 · 15th century

The Compromise of Caspe was the agreement of 1412 by which nine delegates from Aragon, Catalonia and Valencia, meeting at Caspe, chose a new king after Martin the Humane died without a legitimate heir in 1410. They selected the Castilian prince Ferdinand of Antequera over James II of Urgell and other claimants, bringing the Trastámara dynasty to the Crown of Aragon.
