Järva County

Also known as Järvamaa

Järva County is a county in central Estonia, with its centre at Paide. The historic land of Järvamaa, called Jerwen in German, came under the Livonian Order in the 13th century, which built a castle at Weissenstein, now Paide. In 1561 its knighthood submitted to Sweden together with those of Harrien and Wierland, as the Livonian state collapsed.
