Julfar

Julfar was a medieval port on the northern coast of the Oman peninsula, near modern Ras al-Khaimah in the United Arab Emirates. From the 14th to the 17th century it was a centre of pearling and of trade between the Gulf, India and East Africa, and it was briefly held by the Portuguese. It declined as Ras al-Khaimah grew nearby in the 18th century.
