Saqr bin Mohammed Al Qasimi

c. 1918–2010 · 20th century · Also known as Saqr bin Muhammad Al Qasimi

Saqr bin Mohammed Al Qasimi was ruler of Ras al-Khaimah from 1948 until his death in 2010. He kept his emirate out of the United Arab Emirates at its founding in December 1971, hoping for oil revenues and angered by Iran's seizure of the Tunb islands, but joined it in February 1972. His more than sixty-year reign was one of the longest in the Gulf.
