Jumièges Abbey

Jumièges Abbey is a ruined Benedictine abbey on a loop of the Seine in Normandy, founded in the 7th century by Saint Philibert. Destroyed by the Vikings and restored by the dukes of Normandy in the 10th century, it became a major monastery whose abbey church was consecrated in 1067 in the presence of William the Conqueror. Closed in the French Revolution and used as a quarry, its ruins are among the finest of Romanesque Normandy.
