Kardam
Kardam was khan of Bulgaria from about 777 to around the turn of the 9th century. He ended a long period of internal strife, and in 792 defeated the Byzantine emperor Constantine VI at Markellai, forcing Byzantium to resume paying tribute. A further campaign by Constantine in 796 ended without a battle.
