Keelung

Also known as Jilong

Keelung is a port city on the northern tip of Taiwan. The Spanish occupied its harbour in 1626, building Fort San Salvador on Heping Island, until the Dutch took it in 1642. Opened to foreign trade in the 1860s and attacked by the French in 1884, it was developed under Japanese rule from 1895 into Taiwan's main northern port, serving the capital, Taipei.
