Kirtipur
Kirtipur is an old Newar town on a ridge south-west of Kathmandu, Nepal. Prithvi Narayan Shah of Gorkha failed to take it in two assaults before capturing it after a long siege in the 1760s, punishing its defenders by cutting off their noses. Its fall opened the way to his conquest of the Kathmandu Valley in 1768.
