Köthen

Also known as Cöthen

Köthen is a town in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany, between the Elbe and the Saale. From 1603 to 1847 it was the residence of the princes, later dukes, of Anhalt-Köthen. Johann Sebastian Bach worked at its court from 1717 to 1723, and the Fruitbearing Society for the German language had its seat there. The founder of homeopathy, Samuel Hahnemann, also lived and practised in the town.
