Kruszwica

Kruszwica is a small town in Kuyavia, central Poland, on the northern shore of Lake Gopło. It was an important stronghold of the early Piast state, and in the 12th century it was the seat of a bishopric that later moved to Włocławek. Its Romanesque collegiate church and the brick Mouse Tower, linked by legend with the mythical ruler Popiel, survive from the medieval town.
