Konrad I of Masovia

c. 1187–1247 · 13th century · Also known as Konrad of Masovia

Konrad I of Masovia was a Polish duke of the Piast dynasty, ruling Masovia and Kuyavia and briefly holding Kraków. Unable to stop raids by the pagan Prussians, he invited the Teutonic Order to Poland and granted it the Chełmno land around 1226. The Order then conquered Prussia and built a powerful state that later became a long-standing rival of Poland.
