Kushinagar

Also known as Kusinara

Kushinagar, ancient Kusinara, is a town in eastern Uttar Pradesh, India, where according to Buddhist tradition the Buddha died and entered parinirvana. It was a centre of the Malla people, who cremated his body and shared out his relics. With Lumbini, Bodh Gaya and Sarnath it is one of the four main places of Buddhist pilgrimage, and its Mahaparinirvana Temple holds a large reclining Buddha.
