Kythira
Kythira is a Greek island off the south-eastern tip of the Peloponnese, at the meeting of the Ionian and Aegean seas. In antiquity it was sacred to Aphrodite. Known to the Venetians as Cerigo, it was held by Venetian families and then by Venice itself for most of the period until 1797, and afterwards shared the fate of the Ionian Islands, joining Greece in 1864.
