La Centinela

c. 1000–1532 · 11th century

La Centinela is an archaeological site in the Chincha valley on the south coast of Peru, the capital of the Chincha lordship from around 1000. Its adobe pyramids, plazas and residential compounds reflect a society of farmers, fishermen and long-distance merchants. After the Inca conquest around 1476, the Incas built a palace and administrative buildings there alongside the older structures.
