Cajamarca
Cajamarca is a city in the northern highlands of Peru, capital of the Cajamarca region. An Inca administrative centre with baths and temples, it was where Francisco Pizarro and his small Spanish force ambushed the Inca emperor Atahualpa on 16 November 1532, capturing him and killing many of his retinue. Atahualpa offered a huge ransom in gold and silver but was executed there in 1533.
