La Galigo
La Galigo, or Sureq Galigo, is the epic cycle of the Bugis of South Sulawesi in Indonesia, composed in Buginese verse and handed down in manuscripts. It tells of the descent of the gods to earth and the adventures of the hero Sawérigading and his son I La Galigo, many of them set in Luwu. Its manuscripts, mostly of the 18th and 19th centuries, form one of the longest literary works in the world and were added to UNESCO's Memory of the World Register in 2011.
