Lake Chalco
Lake Chalco was a freshwater lake in the south-east of the Valley of Mexico, joined to Lake Xochimilco and part of the lake system that included Lake Texcoco. Its shores were home to the Chalca city-states, and chinampa fields in its shallows helped feed Tenochtitlan. It was drained in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and much of its former bed is now built over.
