Lake Katwe
Lake Katwe is a salt lake in a volcanic crater in western Uganda, north of Lake Edward, within what is now Queen Elizabeth National Park. Salt has been worked there for centuries and was traded widely across the Great Lakes region, reaching kingdoms such as Nkore, Bunyoro and Toro. Control of the salt works made the lake a valuable prize for the region's rulers.
