Lake Jackson Mounds

c. 1100–1500 · 12th century

The Lake Jackson Mounds are a group of earthen platform mounds on the shore of Lake Jackson, just north of Tallahassee, Florida. Built by people of the Fort Walton culture between about 1100 and 1500, the site was the leading Mississippian ceremonial centre of the region, and burials there yielded copper plates and other prestige goods. It is now a Florida state park.
