Lake Pátzcuaro

Lake Pátzcuaro is a highland lake in Michoacán, Mexico, at about 2,000 metres above sea level. Its basin was the heartland of the Purépecha state, with the capitals Pátzcuaro, Ihuatzio and Tzintzuntzan on its shores, and its island of Janitzio is famous for Day of the Dead celebrations. The lake has shrunk and suffered pollution in recent decades.
