Lake Palace

1743–1746 · 18th century · Also known as Jag Niwas

The Lake Palace is a palace on Jag Niwas island in Lake Pichola at Udaipur, built in 1743–1746 by Maharana Jagat Singh II of Mewar as a summer residence. Its white marble buildings appear to float on the water. Converted into a luxury hotel in the 1960s, it became one of the best-known sights of India and appeared in films such as Octopussy (1983).
