Jagat Singh II
Jagat Singh II was Maharana of Mewar from 1734 to 1751. His reign saw the Marathas begin to exact regular tribute from Mewar, and he presided over the Hurda conference of Rajput rulers in 1734, which sought to unite them against Maratha incursions without lasting effect. A patron of painting and building, he built the Jag Niwas, now the Lake Palace, on an island in Lake Pichola in the 1740s.
