Lancia
Lancia was the chief stronghold of the Astures on the plain of the river Esla, near modern León in north-western Spain. Roman historians record that the legate Titus Carisius besieged and took it during the Cantabrian Wars around 25 BCE, sparing the town so that it would stand as a monument to his victory. Excavations at Villasabariego have uncovered remains of the later Roman settlement.
