Laodicea on the Lycus

Also known as Laodicea ad Lycum

Laodicea on the Lycus was an ancient Greek city in Phrygia, in south-western Anatolia, founded by the Seleucid king Antiochus II in the mid-3rd century BCE. It grew rich under Roman rule from wool, textiles and banking, and its church is one of the seven churches addressed in the Book of Revelation. Its ruins lie near modern Denizli in Turkey.
