League of Cambrai

1508 · 16th century

The League of Cambrai was an alliance formed at Cambrai in December 1508 by Pope Julius II, Emperor Maximilian I, Louis XII of France and Ferdinand II of Aragon against the Republic of Venice. Its armies crushed the Venetians at Agnadello in 1509, but the allies soon fell out, and Venice recovered most of its mainland territory in the war that followed.
