Leeuwarden

Leeuwarden is a city in the northern Netherlands, capital of the province of Friesland. It grew from medieval mound settlements into the main town of Frisia, and from the 16th century it was the seat of the Habsburg and later Dutch stadtholders of Friesland, including the Frisian Nassau line from whom the present Dutch royal family descends. It was a European Capital of Culture in 2018.
