Lex Baiuvariorum

8th century · 8th century

The Lex Baiuvariorum is the law code of the Bavarians, written in Latin and compiled probably in the 740s under Frankish influence, drawing on Alemannic, Visigothic and Frankish laws. It names the Agilolfings as the hereditary ducal family and gives special status to five other noble kindreds. It remained in force under Carolingian rule.
