Lons-le-Saunier

Lons-le-Saunier is a town in eastern France, capital of the Jura department, which grew around salt springs exploited since antiquity. It belonged to the Free County of Burgundy until the French conquest in 1674. Claude Joseph Rouget de Lisle, author of the Marseillaise, was born there in 1760.
