Loughrea
Loughrea is a town in County Galway in the west of Ireland, on the shore of the lake from which it takes its name. Richard Mór de Burgh founded it around 1236 with a castle, and a Carmelite friary followed. It became the chief seat of the Clanricarde Burkes, the Upper Mac William lords of south Galway, and remains of its medieval defences survive.
