Mâcon

Mâcon is a city in Burgundy, eastern France, on the Saône, prefecture of the Saône-et-Loire department. A Gallic and Roman town (Matisco), it was the seat of a bishopric and of the counts of the Mâconnais, whose county was sold to Louis IX in 1239. It is the centre of the Mâconnais wine region and the birthplace of the poet Alphonse de Lamartine.
