MacMurrough dynasty
The MacMurroughs, in Irish Meic Murchada, were the leading family of the Uí Chennselaig and kings of Leinster from the 11th century, named after Murchad, son of Diarmait mac Máel na mBó. Diarmait Mac Murchada brought Anglo-Norman knights into Ireland in 1169. His descendants, the MacMurrough Kavanaghs, recovered power in Wexford and Carlow, where Art MacMurrough Kavanagh defied Richard II, and they kept their independence until submitting to Henry VIII's government.
