Wexford
Wexford is a port town in south-eastern Ireland at the mouth of the River Slaney. It grew from a Norse settlement of the 9th or 10th century, and in 1169 it became the first town in Ireland captured by the Anglo-Normans, who had been invited by Diarmait Mac Murchada, King of Leinster. Oliver Cromwell's army stormed and sacked it in 1649.
