Madrasa of Granada

1349 · 14th century · Also known as Madrasa Yusufiyya

The Madrasa of Granada (Madrasa Yusufiyya) was founded in 1349 by the Nasrid emir Yusuf I as the city's first public institution of higher learning, teaching law, theology and other sciences. After the Christian conquest the building became the city hall; its restored prayer hall, with mihrab and stucco decoration, now belongs to the University of Granada.
