Almería

Also known as Almeria

Almería is a port city in south-eastern Andalusia, Spain, and capital of the province of the same name. It grew into a great port and naval base under the Umayyad Caliphate of Córdoba, which built its Alcazaba in the 10th century, and later became the capital of a taifa kingdom. Castile held it briefly in 1147–1157, and the Catholic Monarchs took it in 1489.
