Magar people

Also known as Magars

The Magars are one of the largest indigenous peoples of Nepal, living mainly in the western and central hills. Speakers of Tibeto-Burman Magar languages, they formed a large part of the army with which the Gorkha kingdom unified Nepal in the eighteenth century and have long been recruited into the Gurkha regiments of the British and Indian armies.
