Maha Yazawin

c. 1724 · 18th century · Also known as Maha Yazawin-gyi

The Maha Yazawin (Great Chronicle) is the first national chronicle of Burma, compiled by U Kala and completed around 1724 under the Restored Toungoo dynasty. It traces Burmese kingship from legendary Buddhist origins to the early 18th century and became the basis for the later Konbaung chronicles, above all the Hmannan Yazawin of 1832.
