Hmannan Yazawin

1832 · 19th century · Also known as Glass Palace Chronicle

The Hmannan Yazawin, or Glass Palace Chronicle, is the official chronicle of the Burmese monarchy, compiled by a committee of scholars appointed by King Bagyidaw in 1829 and completed in 1832. Drawing on earlier chronicles and inscriptions, it narrates the history of the Burmese kings from legendary origins to 1821, and it remained the standard account of Burmese history into the twentieth century.
