Person
Bagyidaw
Bagyidaw was king of Burma from 1819 to 1837, the grandson and successor of Bodawpaya. Burmese expansion into Assam and Manipur under him led to the First Anglo-Burmese War, and by the Treaty of Yandabo of 1826 he ceded Arakan and Tenasserim and paid a large indemnity. Increasingly withdrawn after the defeat, he was deposed by his brother Tharrawaddy in 1837.
