Malay language
The Malay language is an Austronesian language spoken in the Malay Peninsula, Sumatra and much of maritime South-East Asia. Its earliest inscriptions, in Old Malay, date from the period of Srivijaya. The spread of Malay as a language of trade and administration is among Srivijaya's lasting legacies, and it is the basis of modern Malaysian and Indonesian.
