Malayan Emergency
The Malayan Emergency was a guerrilla war fought from 1948 to 1960 between the forces of the Federation of Malaya and the British Commonwealth and the armed wing of the Malayan Communist Party. Under the Briggs Plan, hundreds of thousands of rural Chinese were resettled into new villages to cut off the guerrillas' supplies. The insurgency was largely defeated by the time Malaya became independent in 1957.
