Manifestis probatum
Manifestis probatum is the papal bull issued by Pope Alexander III on 23 May 1179 that recognised Afonso I (Afonso Henriques) as king of Portugal and the kingdom as a vassal of the Holy See. Afonso had used the royal title since about 1139 and Alfonso VII of León had accepted it at Zamora in 1143, but the bull gave the new kingdom papal recognition.
