Mansa Sulayman

r. c. 1341–1360 · 14th century

Mansa Sulayman was ruler of the Mali Empire from about 1341 to 1360, the brother of Mansa Musa. His reign kept the empire near its height, and the traveller Ibn Battuta, who visited his court in 1352–1353, described its ceremonial, justice and security. After his death succession struggles began to weaken Mali.
