Massina
Massina, or Macina, is a region of the inner Niger delta in central Mali, a seasonally flooded plain around Mopti and Djenné. Long home to Fulbe herders as well as farmers and fishermen, it was ruled by Fulbe ardo chiefs under Bambara overlords until Seku Amadu's jihad of 1818 founded the Massina Empire, which the Toucouleur Empire of El Hadj Umar Tall conquered in 1862.
