Matter of Britain
The Matter of Britain is the body of medieval legend about the early history of Britain, above all King Arthur and his knights, Merlin and the Holy Grail. Built on Welsh and Breton traditions and Geoffrey of Monmouth's History of the Kings of Britain of about 1136, it was developed by French poets such as Chrétien de Troyes and spread across European literature. The term was first used by the poet Jean Bodel.
